Local comedian Dave Dugan will perform from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Nov. 12 at SoHo Cafe & Gallery, 620 S. Range Line Rd., for a night of fun to benefit the Carmel Arts Council. Tickets are $30. Proceeds from the event will directly benefit local teacher grants and high school scholarships. Tickets are available at the counter at SoHo Café or online at Eventbrite.

Q: For those that haven’t seen you in a while, what do you talk about nowadays in your act? Has it changed over the years?

A: I guess my performances could be categorized as personal and observational.
I talk about family, marriage, injuries, spider monkeys, corn hole. You know, all the material the cool kids love to hear about. I do write a lot and like to say each show is different, but I like to say a lot of things.

Q: Is it any different performing in a coffee shop as opposed to a bar or a comedy club?

A: SoHo is a unique hangout kind of place that gives it a great atmosphere for comedy … It is a good fit for laid-back humor. Whether it’s a coffee house, club, theater or corporate event, I always try and adapt to the audience and venue.

Q: What’s your opinion of the comedy crowds in Carmel?

A: The audiences from Carmel and Hamilton County are my favorites. Very smart. SoHo and Bubs have become not only two of my favorite places to perform in town but favorite places to do a show anywhere. As in anywhere in the galaxy.

Q: Any jokes about Carmel that you throw in for these crowds?

A: Always have to work in some Carmel humor. We moved here when I was in first grade, so it’s a law. Have to interject some local comedy.

Q: This show will be right after the election. How has the election affected your act? Do you think crowds expect to hear something about it, or is that the last thing they want to hear?

A: Although I’ve never been a political humorist, this election has ‘forced’ a bit of that genre of comedy to come out of me. However, I am careful to only write my political jokes on my private server.
