Firefighters, staff and support services members will be recognized during the 17th annual Firefighter’s Ball benefiting the Zionsville Fire Dept.

“The highlight of the event is we recognize certain emergency responses that are notable,” said administrative assistant Tiffany Howard, who has been with ZFD for 10 years. “Usually, there’s a tear-jerker moment.”

Every employee of the ZFD will be recognized with special annual awards in the categories of firefighter, rookie, EMT and paramedic. A business partner of the year also is recognized, and often a civilian who has helped the department in some way.

Proceeds from the evening will be used to purchase safety equipment for the firefighters.

“I think it’s important to recognize the firefighters and their commitment to the community and to the businesses who help us out throughout the year,” Howard said.

The Firefighter’s Ball & Awards Banquet will be held at the Golf Club of Indiana’s Cardinal Ballroom Feb. 4. The semi-formal evening will begin at 6 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and a silent auction, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and an awards banquet at 8:15 p.m. followed by dancing.

Silent auction items come from local restaurants, the Shedd Aquarium, Andretti Racing and local salons.

The event is open to the public, but auction items can be purchased online through the Qtego website at qtego.net/qlink/zfd.

Howard said the event has sold out every year that she has attended. The $50 tickets are available by calling the ZFD headquarters at 317-873-5358 and must be purchased by Jan. 23.
