April is Adult Learn to Swim Month, and the Zionsville Aquatic Center is offering $10 lessons to encourage safe swimming.
Classes are taught by members of Zionsville Aquatic Masters, a local branch of United States Masters Swimming. Lessons will be every Monday and Wednesday evening from 7:30 to 8:15 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 1:15 p.m. starting April 10. Classes will not be held Easter Sunday, April 16.
“We do charge a $10 fee to register, but guests could take eight lessons or one lesson for that $10 fee,” Zionsville Aquatic Center Director Lisa Brown said.
More than 100 participants have taken advantage of the lessons in previous years.
“It’s so cool because these people come in, and they haven’t ever put their face in the water before,” Brown said. “They’ll blow bubbles, and they’re able to do it with our help. They’re so grateful. It’s pretty neat.”
According to the Center for Disease Control, 10 people die each day from drowning, and a majority of victims are adults.
