Biette is a member of CHS Select Sound, an acapella group, which will perform a concert called “Ear Candy” at 7 p.m. April 19 at the CHS Auditorium.

Biette said it’s the group’s biggest performance of the year

“Because we have the whole concert just to ourselves, it’s truly an opportunity for us to show off every unique type of music that our group can perform,” she said. “It gives us an opportunity to showcase a huge variety of pieces and really demonstrate what our choir is capable of.”

Biette said the show is a culmination of all of the music it has been working on all school year.

“We will be bringing back some of our pieces from previous concerts, plus performing tons of brand new pieces and small group numbers that are brand new,” she said. “We have some classic songs like ‘Love Shack’ and ‘Africa,’ mixed with more modern hits like ‘Stitches’ by Shawn Mendez, along with some beautiful choral pieces and many small group numbers organized by students independently.”

Kathrine Kouns, CHS director of choirs, said Select Sound includes 10 boys and girls.

“They are advanced-level musicians and we sing a variety of acapella literature ranging from Renaissance and classical to the Great American Songbook and modern-day pop acapella,” Kouns said.

Biette said the acapella experience is unique.

“I was in the Accents show choir last year, and I’d say the biggest difference between a show choir and an acapella choir is the freedom to create,” Biette said. “When we start singing a piece in Select Sound, we are able to add in new harmonies or beats and even improvise combinations on the spot. With a smaller acapella group, you can really take a piece and make it your own. And that’s part of what makes this concert so unique, it’s an opportunity for all of us to take ownership of these pieces and perform them the best way that we can. “
