The LIDS Mad Hatter 5K walk/run will return to Zionsville at 8 a.m. June 17. The race is organized by the LIDS Foundation, the charitable arm of Zionsville-based LIDS Sports Group.

“We are trying to get employees and community members involved with LIDS Sports Group with a fun event on the weekend,” said Bailee Reynolds, LIDS Foundation manager.

The LIDS Foundation works to engage youth to become active in sports-related activities that promote healthy lifestyles as well as leadership and growth opportunities.

Reynolds said the first Mad Hatter was a “complete success, ” prompting organizers to make the event an annual tradition.

“We had 140 actual participants at the race and 180 ‘virtual’ runners from across the country,” Reynolds said. “The virtual option is great for LIDS Sports Group, because we can involve our employees from all over the country. They can run the race on their own time and they receive the shirt and medal.”

Reynolds said the Mad Hatter is an event for all ages.

“I believe the youngest participant we had last year was 6 years old,” she said. “We did have a bunch of families with strollers as well.”

The Mad Hatter 5K starts and finishes at the LIDS corporate headquarters in Creekside Corporate Park, 10555 Lids Way. Check-in begins at 6:30 a.m. the day of the event.

Registration is $35 and includes the walk/run, medal and hat pin. To register, visit and search “LIDS Foundation Mad Hatter 5K.” To sign up for the virtual option, go to Registration is $25. Participants do the walk/run on their own schedule and then post results online. They receive a commemorative race bib, T-shirt, medal and hat pin.
