School/grade: Boone Meadow Elementary, second grade

Years as a teacher: 16

Professional accomplishments/experiences: Teacher of the Year 2005/2006, Teacher of the Year 2016/2017, being one of the teachers who helped open/establish Stonegate Elementary School and Boone Meadow Elementary their first year

Why you became a teacher: I love children, and I love learning new things.  With teaching, you are constantly helping others grow and discover new things about themselves.

Favorite subject as a student: Reading

Goal for students: To be curious, imaginative, and determined.  I also want students to set goals for themselves and to be empowered to find the means to reach those goals.

Classroom atmosphere/teaching style: very positive and warm, students are free to express themselves, have high expectations for learning but support my students along the way

Hobbies or interests: family and friends, exercising, spending time with my daughters, traveling

Favorite memory from teaching: I have so many great memories that it’s hard to pick just one.  Anytime I’ve witnessed a child feel pride for something they’ve accomplished and being there to celebrate with them.

Advice for parents: Let them be little (don’t rush their childhood)

Favorite local restaurant: Olive Garden

Favorite vacation spot: any beach

Something people don’t know about you: I’m fascinated by sharks and Shark Week is one of my favorite things about summer!
