The Zionsville Street and Stormwater Dept. plans to remove the slip lane at the corner of CR 875 E. and Whitestown Road, which will transition the intersection into a typical four-way stop. The slip lane allows vehicles to turn right without entering the intersection and disturbing other vehicles.

Lance Lantz, superintendent of the department, said he has received comments from drivers who said the slip lane causes confusion about where to stop and who should go through the intersection first.

“Many years ago when traffic was light in the area, it didn’t seem to be problematic, but as development has increased in that area, it has really led to some confusion,” Lantz said. “It’s not an efficient intersection.”

The four-way stop is already in effect and the department will remove the slip lane in the winter. Asphalt was added to the northeast corner of the four-way stop to create space for right turns.

Lantz said the department plans to turn the intersection into a roundabout in the future.
