Zionsville Town Council met for the first time in the new year Jan. 3. The next meeting is 7:30 a.m. Jan. 16 at Town Hall, 1100 W. Oak St.

What happened: The council elected a president and vice president for 2018.

What it means: Josh Garrett was re-elected as president and Bryan Traylor was re-elected as vice president. Both votes were unanimous. The council approved various council members’ appointments to town boards, commissions and committees.

What happened: The council approved an ordinance to amend the Town Hall Improvement Fund Ordinance, 6-0.

What it means: Deputy Mayor Ed Mitro gave a brief presentation on the ordinance. “The original ordinance had language written such that the funds from the sale of the old (town hall) building could be used for renovations,” he said. “We broadened that out. We have two outlots for sale and also a rental coming into this building from the chamber of commerce and other various rentals, so those funds can be deposited into this account. Those funds’ purpose is for improvements or enhancements to town hall or paying down any of the debt.”
