Doug Geske and his wife, Laura, and son, Matt Geske, will soon bring a new home care business to Carmel.

FirstLight Home Care is a Cincinnati-based business specializing in non-medical home care for senior citizens and people with disabilities. Geske said FirstLight’s mission is to help people maintain their quality of life.

“Everyone likes to maintain their normality of life as long as they can, and as people get older and are challenged with physical issues or mental issues, sometimes they’re unable to live in a home anymore, the home they’ve lived in all their lives or the neighborhood they’ve been in,” he said. “We provide non-medical support to our clients, and it goes anywhere from being just a companion to providing supportive help to allow people to maintain their life status and maintain the ability to live in their homes.”

Besides helping senior citizens, FirstLight will serve people with certain disabilities or injuries.

“Let’s say I break my hip, I’m 55 years old, and I go to rehab. Then I come home, I need help but my wife works. We can provide some of that in-between help until someone gets back on their feet,” said Geske, a Carmel resident.

FirstLight’s Carmel office will be at 13277 Illinois St. Geske plans to have approximately six trained caregivers on staff before accepting clients Aug. 1. Geske also wants to expand FirstLight’s service area to cover more of Indianapolis and surrounding communities.

“The initial territory that we have agreed to represent is basically all of Hamilton County, into Boone County and north of Hamilton County, and then we’ve also basically reserved an area that would go into the northern part of Indianapolis and east and west of Hamilton and Boone counties. We’re looking to develop that area probably in the next 15 months or so,” Geske said.
