Hamilton County Bicentennial Bash set for December

Throughout the year, a special commission of appointees has organized events to celebrate the Hamilton County bicentennial, including a traveling exhibit that launched in February, and events featuring each township in the county. The festivities will culminate with the Hamilton County Bicentennial Bash, from 1 to 5 p.m. Dec. 3, at Ivy Tech, 300 N. 17th St., Noblesville.

The bash will highlight bicentennial events and celebrations that took place throughout the year, said Jessica Layman, bicentennial coordinator. Admission and food are free. Some items will be available for purchase.

The commission highlighted five county themes for the bicentennial: art, education, historic preservation, parks and environment and diversity and inclusion.

Approximately 50 bicentennial events were conducted throughout the year.

“I spent a lot of time traveling throughout the county, throughout the series, as you might imagine, and I spent a lot of time helping people prep their events and have their events,” Layman said. “And so just to come together and celebrate what we’ve done and show people where we’re going, I think is really exciting.”

Representatives from the Hamilton County Historical Society, two veterans groups, historical societies from around the area, such as Sheridan and Carmel, and the Hamilton East Public Library will attend the Bicentennial Bash.

The event also will include a raffle, live music and merchandise for sale.

“As you can tell, kind of our goal throughout the year (is) to get people to learn about county history in some way or another, no matter how long they’ve lived here,” Layman said. “And so I think people who come will walk away knowing something new. I think that’s always a good goal.
