Samantha’s House Foundation, a Central Indiana nonprofit that works to improve the living conditions of those who suffer from a significant injury or disability, handed over the keys to a new home on Jessup Boulevard in Carmel last month. Amy and Jackson Miller were welcomed into their new home by more than 40 volunteers, family members and supporters.
Jackson, 12, suffers from type 2 pyruvate carboxylase deficiency, a rare metabolic and mitochondrial disorder causing severe brain and muscle damage.
Samantha’s House, Pyatt Builders and a variety of other volunteers designed the home specifically around Jackson’s needs. The home includes wheelchair-accessible hallways, doors and rooms, a bedroom complete with a bathroom and lift system and a therapy room. Another portion of the house was built with Amy, a single mother, in mind, giving her spaces to relax during moments of downtime.
