A Cicero bicyclist was struck and killed in a crash shortly after 9:30 p.m. July 14.

Cicero Police were dispatched to the area of Main and Neal streets on a report of a bicyclist found on the side of the road and asked for assistance from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Team.

Sheriff Deputy Bryant Orem said an initial investigation showed that Nicholas Camp, 20, of Cicero was riding southbound on Main Street when the left handlebar of his bicycle was struck by a passing motorist causing him to lose control of the bike and crash.  Camp, who was found with his bicycle on top of him by a passerby, was not wearing a helmet and sustained severe head trauma.  Orem said he was taken to Riverview Health Hospital and then by air ambulance to Methodist Hospital where he later died from injuries sustained during the crash.

Orem said the vehicle that struck Camp left the scene and the driver may not know that someone was hit.

“The vehicle would have been traveling southbound on Main Street between Neal Street and Buckeye Street around 9:40 p.m. and may have damage to the passenger side mirror or side,” he stated.

Anyone with information on the vehicle should contact Sgt. Brian Niec of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office at 776-4106.
