Brebeuf Jesuit senior Rex Barrett of Zionsville has earned two top hockey awards in recent weeks, honoring the senior for his academic success and play on the ice.

On March 7, Barrett won the Indiana State High School Hockey Association’s J. Howard Guitard Mental Attitude Award at the Indiana High School Hockey Tournament. The award recognizes an Indiana high school hockey player for academic achievement, leadership, community and school service and dedication and sportsmanship playing hockey.  The award includes a $1,000 scholarship.

Brebeuf Jesuit coaches recently presented Barrett with the Br. Patrick Sheehy, S.J. Award, which recognizes a player who exhibits a forthright determination to develop and improve his hockey skills, physical abilities and knowledge of the game in addition to ensuring that these individual qualities enhance his teammates and the team as a whole.

Barrett is co-captain of Brebeuf’s hockey team and a leader in scoring and assists. He’s also received the Academic Excellence Award for Brebeuf hockey and the U.S. Achievement Academy National Award for Pre-Calculus. He has been a volunteer at Coburn Place, The Boys and Girls Club and elsewhere.
