The City of Carmel will participate in national efforts to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War by holding a ceremony at noon March 30 at The Tarkington at the Center for the Performing Arts. The ceremony is free and open to the public.

The city is partnering with VFW Post 10003 for the program, “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans.”

“We must never forget the pain and suffering that our brave men and women experienced then and now; nor should we ever stop paying respect to those who fought with honor and distinction in the name of freedom and democracy,” said Mayor Jim Brainard in a statement. “Carmel takes great pride in honoring our military veterans. We hope you join us for this very special occasion.”

Retired U.S. Army Col. Bob Clifford will be the guest speaker and will lead the program to thank and honor veterans who served during the Vietnam War period. Each veteran in attendance will be presented with a special Vietnam veteran lapel pin. Carmel musician Blair Clark will sing the National Anthem and the Honor Guard will be in attendance. Light refreshments will be served.
