Obituary: Maria Cornelia Ataide

Maria Cornelia Ataide, 71, Noblesville, died Sept. 24 at home. She was born July 11, 1945 to Michael and Cornelia (Barnard) Fourie in Pretoria, South Africa.

Maria retired from Alberton High School in South Africa, after teaching business economics, accounting and typing for 40 years. She immigrated to the United States in 2012 and was a member of Noblesville First United Methodist Church, where she was involved with the Dinner’s On Us, Ugly Quilts and Elderberries programs. She also was a volunteer at Conner Prairie and the Fishers YMCA.

She is survived by daughter Melanie Angbao, brother Danie Fourie, grandchildren Sophia, Simon and Solomon Angbao, nieces Adele and Michelle and nephews Andre and Danie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Romulo Ataide who died in 2012, and her son, Miguel, who died in 2013.
