Announced today, Aug. 21, Executive Director Jack Powell announced the appointment of Margaret Blandford to the Smart Steps Program Specialist position at Chaucie’s Place.

Margaret holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Marian University, with minors in Peace and Justice Studies and Pastoral Leadership. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Social Work, which she expects to complete in May 2018. Her professional experiences include employment with a community mental health center as a school-based skills trainer. She also has worked in a residential group home with pregnant and parenting teen mothers.

“I am thrilled and honored to be joining such a passionate team as a Smart Steps Program Specialist,” Blandford stated in a press release. “In my previous professional experience, I have worked with child and teen survivors of sexual abuse and assault in programs that encouraged healing and empowerment. I am excited to now focus my energy on education and prevention regarding these types of abuse.”

Chaucie’s Place is a nonprofit child advocacy organization that works to prevent child sexual abuse and youth suicide through prevention programs for children, adults and school systems.

“Smart Steps: A Body Safety Program for Children” is a child sexual abuse prevention and education program that teaches elementary school-aged children that their bodies belong to them, and that they have the right to say “NO!” to unwanted touches from anyone. The program also teaches children to tell an adult about any touches that make them uncomfortable, and that abuse is never their fault.
