CHS open as warming center until 7 p.m.

Carmel High School is open until 7 p.m. Jan. 30 as a warming shelter, as frigid weather can cause power outages and unsafe conditions.

Guests must enter through Door 13, the Freshman Center entrance, on the northwest side of the school. Pets brought to the warming center must be kept in a crate.

All Carmel fire stations may also be used as a warming shelter.

Approximately 1,300 Carmel homes near 116th Street and Shelborne Road were without electricity the morning of Jan. 30, but power has been restored.

The extreme weather has also led to the cancellation of trash pickup on Jan. 30. Trash pickup days will be pushed back one day through the rest of the week in Carmel.
