Ballet Theatre of Carmel Academy Artistic Director Jane Hachiya-Weiner is especially glad this season to again present “The Nutcracker” amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are very pleased that we have had dancers and families come alongside of us to entrust us and our safety protocols enough to let their dancers participate in this staging of the ‘Nutcracker,’” Hachiya-Weiner said. “We’re happy about the Zionsville theater whose doors remain open in accordance with the current guidelines. It has been a hard year. Our dancers truly need a performance as a culmination point for all of their hard work, both virtually and masked in the studio. The viewing public needs a moment in a theater to remember that our souls and spirits need to be nurtured, even while we work to remain physically safe during this pandemic.”

There will be four performances at Star Bank Performing Arts Center at Zionsville Community High School. There will be performances at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 19-20

Hachiya-Weiner said one blessing is that dancers do not remain in one place for long because of all the traveling steps and choreography.

“Therefore, they reduce their risk of staying in close contact with one another,” she said. “We are blessed to be in a rather large venue for this event on many levels.”
