Afternoon crash claims life of Noblesville woman

At approximately 1:05 p.m. March 16,  police officers and firefighters from the Noblesville Police Dept. and Noblesville Fire Dept. responded to the intersection of Ind. 37 and Field Drive in Noblesville in reference to a report of a two-car motor vehicle crash.

Officers and firefighters arrived on the scene a short time later and began to investigate.

Based on witness statements and evidence at the scene, police said it appeared that a 2002 Saturn passenger car was traveling eastbound on Field Drive when, for an unknown reason, it pulled out into the path of a 1996 Pontiac passenger car that was traveling northbound on Ind. 37.

The driver of the Saturn was transported by ground ambulance to Riverview Health in Noblesville and was pronounced dead. The driver was later identified by police as Betty Lou Turner, 87, Noblesville.

The driver of the Pontiac was identified as Cheryl A. Joy, 69, of Cicero and was transported by ground ambulance to Riverview Health for non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators from the NPD Accident Reconstruction Unit were summons to the scene to collect evidence and gather information. As a result of the investigation, northbound traffic on Ind. 37 from Ind. 32 to 191st Street was closed until approximately 3:30 p.m.
